Swiss hospitality sees slight increase in July overnight stays

The Swiss hospitality sector saw a slight increase in overnight stays in July 2026, marking a recovery after four consecutive months of decline. According to the Federal Statistical Office, total overnight stays rose by 0.6 percent compared to the previous year.

This growth was primarily driven by a 4.1 percent increase in domestic tourism. In contrast, overnight stays from foreign visitors fell by 2.3 percent. While demand from European markets was mixed—with increases from Germany, the Netherlands, and France, but significant drops from the United Kingdom and Italy—Asian markets saw a notable decline. Specifically, stays from India, the Gulf States, and China decreased by 16.8 percent, 11.4 percent, and 10.6 percent, respectively. Demand from the United States remained stable, contributing to a slight 0.2 percent increase in that segment.
