Swiss police identify lone suspect in fatal Aarau rave shooting

A 43-year-old Swiss man has been identified as the lone perpetrator in a fatal shooting at a rave party in Aarau, Switzerland. The attack, which occurred between August 29 and August 30, resulted in the death of 22-year-old Italian citizen Maria Spinelli and left five others wounded, including two Italian nationals.

Aargau cantonal police commander Michael Leupold stated there is no indication of other accomplices. The suspect, who reportedly suffers from psychological problems, surrendered to police in Delémont on Monday and has remained silent during custody. Authorities recovered two pistols and an AK-47 assault rifle from the suspect’s vehicle. While the motive remains unknown, the suspect was not previously known to law enforcement.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed deep condolences regarding the death of Spinelli. Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis also extended condolences to the Italian government, signaling diplomatic cooperation as the investigation continues.
