Swiss Police warn of ASTRA-themed phishing emails
The Appenzell Innerrhoden Cantonal Police have issued a warning regarding phishing emails targeting the public in Switzerland. These fraudulent messages falsely claim to be traffic fines or payment reminders.
The scammers are misappropriating the logo of the Federal Roads Office (ASTRA) to appear legitimate. The primary objective of these emails is to trick recipients into making payments or revealing personal financial information. Authorities emphasize that ASTRA does not issue fines via email or SMS.
Citizens are advised not to open links, click on attachments, or provide any personal or credit card data. Phishing attempts can be reported to the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). Anyone who has already made a payment is urged to report the incident to a police station immediately.
