Switzerland faces record corporate insolvencies in 2026
Swiss corporate insolvencies are projected to reach a historic high of 15,000 cases in 2026, according to an Allianz Trade report. This would represent a doubling of insolvency figures compared to 2022 and a tripling relative to pre-pandemic levels. Experts attribute this trend to high energy costs, rising interest rates, and economic uncertainty.
Jan Möllmann, head of Allianz Trade Switzerland, noted that the new Swiss insolvency law, which took effect in 2025, is a significant driver of these figures, as it mechanically increases the number of companies entering insolvency proceedings. While the national economy is currently showing growth—with GDP forecasts for 2026 ranging between 1.5% and 1.9%—individual businesses are struggling with declining orders and rising costs.
Globally, corporate insolvencies are expected to rise by 5% in 2026 and 1% in 2027. Due to geopolitical and macroeconomic instability, the global peak for insolvencies is now anticipated to occur in 2028.
