Syarikat Islam holds 42nd National Congress in Surabaya

Syarikat Islam (SI) held its 42nd National Congress, known as Majelis Tahkim, in Surabaya from October 17 to 20, 2026. Marking 121 years since its origins as Sarekat Dagang Islam, the organization focused on the theme ‘Economic Da'wah Towards True Independence.’

Leadership emphasized that true independence requires economic self-reliance and the ability of the community to manage its own resources. Hamdan Zoelva, President of the Lajnah Tanfidziyah, reaffirmed that the legacy of Islamic socialism inherited from HOS Tjokroaminoto remains a core ideological pillar. He described this as a struggle for social justice, nationalism, and people-centered economics based on Islamic values.

Yudhi Isryadi Syafii, Chairman of Syarikat Islam, stated that economic da'wah is not merely about profit, but about integrating moral values, justice, and responsibility into the community's economic life to build a sovereign and independent nation.
