Sydney boys' schools face scrutiny after sexual assault charges

Three boys, aged 13 and 14, from The Scots College in Sydney have been charged with the aggravated sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl. The school stated it has co-operated and will continue to co-operate with police regarding the matter.

Chanel Contos, founder of Teach Us Consent, noted that in 2021, her campaign gathered over 500 testimonies alleging sexual assault by current or former students at Scots or Cranbrook schools. Contos highlighted concerns regarding a culture of “toxic masculinity” within elite all-male institutions and the broader issue of sexual violence involving teenage boys in Australia.
