Sydney mother charged in fatal stabbing of five-year-old son

A 42-year-old mother from Sydney is facing charges for the murder of her five-year-old son and the attempted murder of her two younger children. The incident occurred on a Sunday in the Blue Mountains area, specifically in a remote street in Wollei Heights.

Police report that the woman attacked the children with a knife while they were secured in their car seats. Following the attack, she allegedly injured herself. A cyclist discovered the vehicle with its doors open and found the woman injured; bystanders provided first aid before emergency services arrived. The five-year-old boy died at the scene, while his three-year-old sister and one-year-old brother were hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

The suspect appeared in a Penrith court via video link from her hospital bed on Tuesday. She has been charged with murder in the context of domestic violence and two counts of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent to kill. A judge denied her bail, and her next court appearance is scheduled for November 20. The Kenyan community in Sydney has gathered to support the children's father, and the Kenyan Consulate is providing assistance to the family.
