Blue Mountains child murder investigation

Overview

A 42-year-old woman is facing murder charges following a stabbing attack on her three children in the Blue Mountains area. The incident occurred on a Sunday afternoon when the family was found in a car parked on Waratah Road.

Two children have died: a five-year-old was declared dead at the scene, and a one-year-old died in the hospital. A three-year-old sibling remains in critical condition. The mother, who was treated for self-inflicted wounds, has been charged with the murder of her five-year-old and two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent to murder regarding her other children.

Reports indicate the woman allegedly attacked the children with a knife while they were secured in their car seats. Passing cyclists discovered the scene and administered first aid to the children and the injured woman before emergency services arrived.

The suspect appeared in Penrith Local Court via video link from her hospital bed. A judge denied her bail, and she is scheduled for a further court appearance on November 20. The Kenyan community in Sydney has gathered to support the children's father, with the Kenyan Consulate providing assistance to the family. Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the attack.
