Leah Stewart survives shark attack at Coogee Beach
Leah Stewart, a 35-year-old mother, survived a severe great white shark attack while swimming at Coogee Beach near Sydney, Australia. The incident occurred on June 13, when Stewart was swimming approximately 30 meters from the shore.
During the attack, Stewart suffered life-threatening injuries, including multiple bite wounds, fractures, and extreme blood loss. She was placed in an induced coma at St. Vincent’s Hospital and eventually underwent an amputation of her arm. Lifeguard Charlie Verco, who was nearby on a paddleboard, assisted in bringing her to the shore.
Stewart has credited her survival to the thought of her 18-month-old daughter, August, which motivated her to fight the animal. A GoFundMe campaign raised over $558,000 to support her recovery. Stewart has since begun regaining her independence and described her recovery as remarkable.
