Sydney Swans AFLW coach addresses player suspensions and club controversy

Sydney Swans AFLW coach Colin O’Riordan has addressed the team’s response to recent club controversies. Following an incident on August 17 involving drinking and breaches of behavioral standards, several male players—Riley Bice, Isaac Heeney, Nick Blakey, James Jordon, and Chad Warner—were suspended for the remainder of the season. While a police investigation into the events is ongoing, no players have been formally charged or interviewed.

Despite the scrutiny, the Swans AFLW team set a new home attendance record at the SCG, with 16,672 fans attending a double-header where the women's team defeated Essendon. O’Riordan noted that the pressure has forced the squad to be more vulnerable and honest with one another as they prepare to face St Kilda in Coffs Harbour for the AFLW Indigenous Round.
