Sydney Swans players suspended amid police investigation

The Sydney Swans face significant upheaval following the suspension of five players—Isaac Heeney, Nick Blakey, Chad Warner, Riley Bice, and James Jordon—for breaching club standards. The suspensions come amid a Victoria Police investigation into alleged sexual assaults involving three women at the Pullman East Melbourne hotel during a recent trip.

While Riley Bice has been cleared as a suspect and is now being treated as a witness, the other four players remain persons of interest. Police have seized an audio recording from a Melbourne residence that reportedly contains detailed recollections of the events in the hotel room and lobby.

Despite the loss of key personnel, Swans coach Dean Cox remains confident in the team's ability to compete in the upcoming finals against the Brisbane Lions. The club has maintained that the suspensions will remain in place for the rest of the season regardless of the police investigation's outcome. Additionally, reports indicate that defender Nick Blakey is seeking a trade from the club following a deterioration in his relationship with the organization.
