Sydney to host 12th International Summer University on Greek language

The 12th International Summer University, titled ‘Greek Language, Culture and Media’, is scheduled to take place in Sydney, Australia, from September 6 to September 11, 2026. Held at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) campus, this year's event shifts its focus from America to the Antipodes.

The theme, ‘The Greek Language in Australia: From Memory to the Future’, aims to foster dialogue regarding the historical journey and future prospects of the Greek language in Australia. Discussions will address challenges posed by modern education, digital technology, media, and the evolving needs of Greek-speaking communities.

The program is organized by the Laboratory of Social Issues, Media and Education of the University of Ioannina in collaboration with the Greek Studies Program at UNSW and Unity in Philia. The event is held under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos Tasoulas, and is supported by the General Secretariat for Diaspora Greeks and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
