Syracuse field hockey advances to ACC championship game
Syracuse University field hockey secured a spot in the ACC Championship game after defeating top-seeded North Carolina in a semifinal match. The game ended in a 3-2 victory for Syracuse, decided by a 3-1 shootout win following a tie through regulation and overtime.
North Carolina’s bid for a tenth consecutive ACC title was hampered by a controversial video review in the 58th minute. A goal by Ryleigh Heck was disallowed after officials ruled a referee’s whistle had blown before the ball crossed the line. Despite outshooting Syracuse 18-4, the Tar Heels could not overcome the setback.
Syracuse, the No. 16 seed, relied on strong performances from Hattie Madden and Aubrey Turner, who both scored regulation goals. Goalkeeper Jessie Eiselin made three saves in the first half, while Tane King and Sammie Goin anchored the defensive effort during the shootout to send the Orange to their first title game since 2015.
