Syria and Azerbaijan agree to form joint business council
A Syrian ministerial delegation, led by Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal al-Shaar, is participating in the second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum in Baku. The visit aims to strengthen trade cooperation, expand investment partnerships, and open new markets for Syrian products.
A key outcome of the discussions is the agreement to establish the Syrian-Azerbaijani Business Council. This council will serve as a direct platform for business communities from both nations to connect, identify priority sectors, and develop joint projects.
The forum, held under the patronage of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, addresses topics such as digital transformation, infrastructure, free economic zones, and financial cooperation. This economic engagement follows the reopening of the Azerbaijani embassy in Damascus in February 2025 and the commencement of Azerbaijani natural gas supplies to Syria via Turkey in August 2025.
