Syria and Lebanon conduct major drug and weapons seizures

Syrian and Lebanese authorities have conducted significant operations targeting narcotics and weapons smuggling along their shared border.

In Syria, the Ministry of Defense reported that border guards seized approximately 32 kg of hashish and 194,000 Captagon pills during operations along the Syrian-Lebanese border since early September. A separate security operation in Al-Nabk resulted in the seizure of an additional 206,000 Captagon pills, along with weapons and explosives, leading to the arrest of two suspects.

In Lebanon, the army detained Suleiman Assad, a relative of ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, near the city of Baalbek. Assad was apprehended alongside Ali Zeiter, the son of a suspected drug trafficker, on charges involving weapons and hashish. Lebanese officials noted that Suleiman Assad was among three individuals detained, including a Syrian citizen lacking legal residency documentation.
