Syrian and Lebanese drug and weapons seizure operations

Overview

Syrian authorities have conducted several operations targeting drug trafficking and weapons smuggling. In late August, the Ministry of Interior’s drug control department dismantled a network in the Latakia governorate, resulting in the arrest of three individuals and the seizure of 45 kilograms of hashish, 25,000 captagon pills, and 400 grams of crystal meth.

By mid-September, security operations expanded along the Syrian-Lebanese border. The Syrian Ministry of Defense reported the seizure of approximately 32 kg of hashish and 194,000 Captagon pills near the border, followed by another operation in Al-Nabk that recovered 206,000 Captagon pills, weapons, and explosives.

Simultaneously, Lebanese authorities detained Suleiman Assad, a relative of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, near Baalbek. Assad was apprehended alongside Ali Zeiter, the son of a suspected drug trafficker, on charges related to hashish and weapons.
