Syria denies reports of Germany deporting 700,000 refugees

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has denied reports claiming that the German government intends to deport 700,000 Syrian refugees. Nahla Othman, Director of the Department of Expatriates and Refugee Affairs, stated that these rumors are baseless and do not reflect the actual procedures being taken by German authorities.

Following a meeting between the Syrian Foreign Ministry and the German Ministry of the Interior in Berlin on September 24, officials clarified that discussions are focused on exploring possibilities for changing residency types to better suit individuals who have integrated into German society. The ministry also aims to seek new opportunities for reviewing files of individuals who previously received rejection decisions, in accordance with German laws and procedures.

While the Syrian government denied mass deportations, reports have indicated that German officials may seek to expand the review of protection statuses, particularly for single young men not in employment. However, officials noted that working professionals, such as doctors and nurses, may be eligible to transition to work-related residence permits.
