Syria enters new era of stability and investment following sanctions removal
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa stated that the nation has undergone a ‘new birth’ following the lifting of international sanctions. Speaking at the Arab Media Summit in Dubai, al-Sharaa emphasized that Syria is transitioning from a source of regional instability to a ‘great opportunity’ for the Middle East.
Al-Sharaa highlighted the country's economic recovery, noting that the Syrian economy grew from approximately $20 billion in late 2024 to $32 billion in 2025, with projections reaching $50 billion this year. He noted that the removal of sanctions—including the U.S. ending comprehensive sanctions in July 2025 and the Arab League lifting political and economic restrictions in September—has cleared major obstacles for international financial transactions and investment.
The President praised the United Arab Emirates for its early investment initiatives, specifically mentioning Dubai Ports World’s involvement in the Port of Tartus. He also underscored Syria's agricultural potential, claiming the sector has the capacity to feed 70 million people, potentially rising to 100 million with modern technology.
As the government works to rebuild state institutions and combat decades of administrative corruption, al-Sharaa stressed that Syria remains open to all and is focused on attracting Gulf and European investments to reintegrate the nation into the global economy.
