Syria establishes Syrian-Azerbaijani Business Council to boost economic ties
The Syrian Ministry of Economy and Industry has officially established the Syrian-Azerbaijani Business Council to strengthen economic ties and partnerships between the two nations. Fahd Abdulaziz Al-Mousa has been appointed as the council's president, with Ahmed Mohammed Khiya and Omar Adnan Al-Sharm serving as vice presidents. The leadership team also includes Jihad Ahmed Maatouk as secretary and Abdul Rahman Al-Rayes as executive director.
The council is designated as the sole recognized entity on the Syrian side for coordinating economic activities with Azerbaijan. It is mandated to operate within the framework of Syria's joint business council regulations and align its activities with national economic priorities.
This development follows a visit to Baku by Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa in July, where he met with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. During that visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Syrian Ministry of Energy and the Azerbaijani state oil company, SOCAR, concerning the supply of natural gas to Syria. The formation of the council was announced by Minister of Economy and Industry Nidal Al-Shaar during the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum in Baku.
