Syria-Lebanon border security forces intercept smuggling attempts
Security forces have intercepted smuggling attempts along the Syria-Lebanon border. In the Jurd al-Maara region of Rif Dimashq, Syrian border guard units engaged in a clash with smugglers who opened fire on a patrol. The incident resulted in the seizure of two vehicles and their cargo, one arrest, and the escape of other suspects into Lebanon.
In a separate but related incident near Arsal, the Lebanese Army intercepted two trucks loaded with vegetables attempting to cross illegally from Syria. Following gunfire from Syrian security patrols, the vehicles reached a Lebanese military checkpoint where they were seized along with one individual involved in the smuggling operation. The detainees and seized goods have been referred to the judiciary.
These incidents occur amid ongoing efforts to enhance security coordination between Syria and Lebanon to combat the smuggling of weapons, drugs, and people across the approximately 375-kilometer mountainous border.
