Syria: Nine killed, including six children, by explosive remnants of war

Nine people, including six children, were killed and 13 others injured by explosive remnants of war in Syria over the past week, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Twelve separate incidents involving explosive devices were recorded across six Syrian provinces. Raqqa reported the highest number of incidents, while the most lethal event occurred in Deir ez-Zor, where a landmine exploded under a civilian vehicle, killing five children and injuring three others.

Since December 8, 2024, more than 1,400 explosive incidents have been recorded across Syria, resulting in approximately 2,500 civilian injuries and 880 deaths. Over two-thirds of these incidents have occurred in agricultural and grazing areas. UN officials emphasized that expanding risk awareness, conducting clearance operations, and assisting victims are vital to ensuring the safe return of displaced populations to their homes.
