Syria restores two power stations after gas pipeline explosion

Following an explosion on a gas pipeline supplying the Tishreen thermal power station in the Eastern Ghouta region, technical teams have begun restoring parts of Syria's energy grid. The Syrian Electricity Company announced that the Al-Nasiriyah and Deir Ali power stations have returned to service after gas supplies were restored by isolating the damaged section of the pipeline.

The Tishreen power station remains offline due to significant damage to its equipment and the feeding gas line. A joint technical committee from the electricity and gas sectors has been formed to assess the extent of the damage, determine repair costs, and establish a timeline for rehabilitation. The explosion site is currently under investigation by internal security forces to determine the cause.

The incident, which coincided with sabotage targeting a gas line in the Deir al-Zor countryside, has highlighted vulnerabilities in the national energy infrastructure. The fire caused gas pressure to drop to critical levels, triggering protection systems that led to the initial shutdown of multiple stations. Authorities have also noted that water pumping and filtration facilities may face temporary schedule adjustments due to the ongoing electricity shortages.
