Syrian Democratic Forces announce dissolution and integration into Syrian Army

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDG) have announced their dissolution following an agreement with President Ahmet Şara to integrate their forces into the Syrian Army. Mazlum Abdi confirmed the decision, which aims to merge existing structures into the national military framework.

Turkish officials have reacted to the development. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan described the decision as “relieving and positive,” noting that its impact will be even more significant if implemented effectively. The Turkish Ministry of National Defense expressed satisfaction with the move, emphasizing the requirement for a “single state, single army” in Syria.

Observers note that this shift marks a significant reshaping of the Syrian landscape. The dissolution of the YPG/SDG follows intense regional pressure and reflects a changing geopolitical dynamic involving Turkey, the United States, and the evolving Syrian administration.
