Syrian former vice‑president Ahmed Hassan denies charges in Damascus court

Ahmed Hassan, a former senior official of the ousted Syrian regime, appeared before the Fourth Criminal Court in Damascus for his third hearing. He rejected all accusations, which include incitement to violence, justification of killings and alleged abuse of his former position for personal gain. Hassan’s defense submitted a five‑page brief with an electronic drive containing video material and asked the court to order a technical forensic analysis to verify the authenticity of the clips used as evidence.

The Transitional Justice Authority’s Director of Accountability, lawyer Reda Mustafa, highlighted the procedural importance of the session, noting that the court’s decision to conduct a technical examination before proceeding underscores a commitment to legal rigour and victim‑centered justice in Syria’s transitional process.
