Syros Cats offers free accommodation for cat care volunteers in Greece

The NGO Syros Cats has announced a volunteer program on the Greek island of Syros, located in the Cyclades archipelago. The initiative offers participants free accommodation, breakfast, and basic services, including water, electricity, and Wi-Fi, in exchange for assisting with the care of rescued and stray cats.

Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum stay of one month. Tasks include cleaning facilities, preparing food, administering medication, socializing with cats, and performing general maintenance or minor repairs. The organization seeks independent individuals, preferably aged 25 or older, with functional English skills. While not mandatory, candidates with veterinary knowledge or experience with feral cats are preferred.

Applications for the 2027 season will be processed in two stages: the first round opens on September 1, 2026, for stays between January and June, and the second round opens on November 1, 2026, for stays between July and December. The program is open to couples and remote workers, provided they can adhere to the refuge's schedule.
