Syros island offers free accommodation for cat welfare volunteers

The Syros Cats organization, an NGO active in the Cyclades, is seeking volunteers to care for stray cats on the Greek island of Syros. In exchange for their service, participants receive free accommodation in a private room within a shared house, breakfast, and access to basic utilities such as water, electricity, and internet.

The volunteer program requires approximately five hours of work per day, six days a week, with one day off for island exploration. Responsibilities include feeding cats, changing water, cleaning litter boxes and cages, maintaining common areas, washing blankets and dishes, and socializing with the animals. Under supervision, volunteers may also assist with administering medication.

Applications for the 2027 program are scheduled to open in September 2026. Requirements for applicants include being of legal age, having a good command of English, possessing good physical condition, and holding international insurance. Participants are responsible for their own travel costs, including flights and ferries.
