Szczecin to equip 274 public transport vehicles with AEDs

Szczecin is implementing a mobile network of Automated External Defibrillators (AED) across its public transportation system. By the end of 2026, 274 vehicles—comprising 205 buses and 69 trams—will be equipped with these life-saving devices.

The initiative, titled ‘Safe Heart of Szczecin – AED in Public Transport’, originated from a winning proposal in the 2026 Szczecin Civic Budget, submitted by firefighters from the OSP Gryf Volunteer Fire Department. The project aims to increase AED accessibility for residents by nearly 350% by placing devices in vehicles that travel to nearly every corner of the city.

The West Pomeranian Voivodeship Office is providing 3.2 million PLN for the project through the Population Protection and Civil Defense Program. The procurement process, managed by the city and the Road and Public Transport Authority (ZDiTM), includes the purchase and installation of AED kits equipped with GPS localization systems, mounting cabinets, first aid kits, and information boards. The equipment will be distributed among SPA Klonowica, SPA Dąbie, and Tramwaje Szczecińskie fleets.
