Tabasco health officials warn of heatstroke risk as temperatures near 40 °C

The Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in Tabasco has issued a public health alert as temperatures in the state are expected to approach or exceed 40 °C. The agency urges residents, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and people with chronic illnesses, to monitor for symptoms of heatstroke, which occurs when body temperature rises between 39 °C and 41 °C and the body can no longer regulate heat.

Preventive measures recommended include taking regular breaks in shaded or covered areas, drinking water or oral rehydration solutions every 30 minutes, wearing light‑colored cotton clothing, hats and long sleeves, and slowing down work that involves prolonged sun exposure. IMSS also stresses that its family medicine units and hospitals will remain open to provide prompt care for heat‑related emergencies.
