Tehran Stock Exchange Index Nears and Passes 5‑Million Mark on Renewed Buying
The Tehran Stock Exchange’s main index rose by 81,000 points (about 1.66%) to 4.975 million units, bringing it close to the psychologically important 5‑million level. Within the same trading session, the index briefly crossed the 5‑million threshold, signaling a return of buying pressure after a period of heightened supply and political risk.
Approximately 66 % of listed shares closed higher, with strong demand observed in refining, pharmaceutical, exchange‑traded funds, agriculture, base‑metal, investment, cement and banking groups. In contrast, several petrochemical and chemical stocks faced increased selling pressure. Cash inflows from private investors amounted to roughly 266 billion Iranian rials, supporting the modest liquidity boost. Analysts note that sustained demand across a broad set of sectors, alongside a modest decline in the free‑market dollar rate, underpins the index’s advance toward the 5‑million channel.
