Chiara Teocchi reveals cardiac arrest and spinal injury after mountain bike crash

Italian mountain biker Chiara Teocchi has shared the harrowing details of her recovery following a severe crash during the XCO World Cup in La Thuile on July 5. After the initial accident, Teocchi was treated in Aosta before transferring to the Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Bergamo.

During a surgical procedure to address a spinal cord injury, Teocchi suffered a critical allergic reaction to anesthesia, which resulted in a cardiac arrest lasting nearly one hour. She credited the cardiac surgery staff in Bergamo with saving her life.

Teocchi is currently using a wheelchair and faces a long rehabilitation process. She has expressed hope for eventually walking and returning to professional cycling. To assist with medical and rehabilitation costs, she has launched a GoFundMe campaign, which has already seen significant community support, raising nearly 30,000 euros within its first 15 hours.
