Chiara Teocchi mountain bike crash and recovery

Overview

Italian mountain biker Chiara Teocchi sustained a spinal cord injury during a crash at the XCO World Cup in La Thuile on July 5. Following the accident, Teocchi was treated in Aosta and later transferred to the Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Bergamo.

During surgery to address her spinal injury, Teocchi suffered a severe allergic reaction to anesthesia, which led to a cardiac arrest lasting nearly one hour. While she credited the cardiac surgery staff in Bergamo with saving her life, the complications have left her using a wheelchair.

Teocchi is currently facing a long rehabilitation process with the goal of walking again and returning to professional cycling. To support her medical and rehabilitation costs, she launched a GoFundMe campaign that raised nearly 30,000 euros within its first 15 hours.
