Argentina weather alerts issued for Zonda winds and high gusts

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued yellow alerts for several regions in Argentina due to intense winds and the Zonda phenomenon.

In Jujuy, high-altitude areas such as the Cordillera de Cochinoca, Rinconada, Santa Catalina, and Susques are expected to experience westerly winds with gusts reaching up to 100 km/h. Other sectors, including Doctor Manuel Belgrano, Humahuaca, Tilcara, and Tumbaya, face the Zonda wind, characterized by sudden temperature increases, very dry conditions, and reduced visibility.

In the province of Tucumán, Tafí del Valle is also under a yellow alert for Zonda winds, with sustained speeds between 30 and 50 km/h and gusts up to 70 km/h. Similarly, Civil Protection has warned that the precordillera areas of Calingasta, Pocito, Rivadavia, Sarmiento, Ullúm, and Zonda will be affected by the Zonda wind, increasing the risk of forest fires and dust-related visibility issues.
