Taichung Councilor criticizes Mayor Lu over infrastructure delays
Taichung City Councilor Chen Yu-jung criticized Mayor Lu Shiow-yen during a general interpellation session, alleging that major construction projects over the past eight years have failed to deliver tangible results.
Chen highlighted several delays, noting that the Taichung Dome, originally promised for a 2026 completion, only began construction in 2024 and is now projected to finish in 2030. Additionally, the Blue Line MRT project faces significant delays, with current progress reported at only 6.8% and a projected completion date of 2038, despite earlier promises of 2034.
Regarding industrial policy, Chen argued that the city's budget for investment attraction is disproportionately low compared to the hundreds of millions spent on local festivals. The councilor also raised concerns over waste management, specifically the upcoming ban on using food waste for pig farming, noting a lack of sufficient budget and infrastructure to handle the resulting surplus of organic waste.
