Taichung election bribery probe involves gift boxes and cash seizure

Taichung prosecutors have launched investigations into two separate election bribery cases involving local candidates.

In the first case, a Taichung City Council candidate surnamed Cheng is suspected of using expensive bird's nest gift boxes to purchase votes. During a raid on three locations, authorities seized 69 boxes of bird's nest and approximately 15.26 million TWD in cash from a political supporter surnamed Yang. While the supporter has been detained under communication and visitation restrictions, the candidate was released on 100,000 TWD bail.

In a second investigation, a candidate for village chief in the Daya District is accused of bribery through organized travel. Prosecutors allege the candidate provided free day trips, including meals and snacks valued at over 1,200 TWD per person, to approximately 30 residents while soliciting votes. Several suspects in this case have been requested for detention.
