Taichung police arrest five suspects in commercial building shooting

Taichung City police have arrested five suspects in connection with a shooting at a commercial building in the West District. The incident occurred around 5:20 AM on July 24, when an MP5 submachine gun was used to fire thirteen shots at the glass entrance of a luxury private club located on the 32nd floor of a building at the intersection of Taiwan Boulevard and Yingcai Road. No injuries were reported.

Investigations revealed that a 37-year-old man surnamed Rao, who has gang affiliations, engaged in a verbal dispute and physical altercation with others at the club after drinking. Following the dispute, Rao traveled to Miaoli to retrieve an MP5 submachine gun and ammunition before returning to the scene to carry out the attack.

On July 27, police conducted synchronized searches and arrests in Miaoli and other locations, seizing mobile phones, memory cards, tablets, marijuana, and a silencer. Two suspects, including Rao, have been detained without bail by the court, and one juvenile has been placed in detention. The case has been transferred to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office on charges including violations of the Firearms, Ammunition, and Knives Control Act and the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act.
