Firearm-related incidents in Taichung

Police in Taichung have conducted separate operations involving the illegal use and brandishing of firearms.

In late July, authorities arrested five suspects following a shooting at a luxury private club in the West District. Investigations determined that a man with gang affiliations retrieved an MP5 submachine gun from Miaoli to fire thirteen shots at the building's entrance following a dispute. Police seized various items, including marijuana and a silencer, and transferred the case to the Taichung District Prosecutors Office.

In early September, a separate incident led to the arrest of two men in the Beitun District after they displayed a modified submachine gun and a handgun during a TikTok live stream. The suspects made intimidating remarks while driving through the city. Taichung City Criminal Investigation Corps used surveillance footage and live stream data to locate the individuals, seizing the weapons and transferring the suspects for charges of public intimidation and firearms violations.
