Taichung police fire 16 shots to stop suspect ramming officers

Police in Taichung's East District opened fire at least 16 times to stop a suspect who attempted to ram officers with a vehicle during a drug raid on August 25.

Officers from the Sixth Police Precinct were conducting an operation to apprehend a 44-year-old male suspect involved in a drug case. Upon realizing the police presence, the suspect attempted to escape by driving a car toward officers. After warning shots and attempts to obstruct the vehicle failed, police discharged multiple rounds at the car to prevent the ramming attempt.

The suspect sustained a gunshot wound to the buttocks and was transported to China Medical University Hospital; he is reported to be in stable condition with no life-threatening injuries. Two other passengers in the vehicle were arrested and are being interrogated regarding their connection to the drug case. Authorities also seized Class 1 narcotics, including ‘zombie smoke’ (etomidate), from the vehicle.
