Taichung to sign 60 billion TWD deal for new indoor baseball stadium

The Taichung City Government is scheduled to sign the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) agreement for the Taichung Sports Industry Park on October 16. The project involves an estimated investment of approximately 60 billion TWD to construct an international-standard indoor baseball stadium with a capacity of at least 45,000 seats.

Taiwan Life will serve as the investor for the project, which will incorporate professional expertise from Japan’s ES-CON Sports & Entertainment (ESE). The facility is intended to function as a multi-purpose landmark for international sporting events, sports leisure, and diverse performances, aiming to meet World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) standards.

The signing ceremony will feature notable baseball figures, including MLB player Lee Hao-yu of the Detroit Tigers and CTBC Brothers manager Peng Cheng-min. The initiative aims to bolster Taichung’s status as a ‘World Baseball City’ by integrating existing infrastructure, such as the Intercontinental Baseball Stadium, with new professional venues to enhance the city’s competitiveness in hosting major international tournaments.
