Taipei Main Station to undergo NT$1 billion renovation by Shin Kong Mitsukoshi

The Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi have launched a partnership to renovate the commercial areas of Taipei Main Station. The project involves an investment of over NT$1 billion and is expected to take approximately 2 years and 8 months to complete. The development agreement is set for a minimum of 15 years.

Key upgrades include the installation of a 600-inch digital welcome wall in the first-floor lobby, updated flooring, and a redesigned timekeeping device. The renovation aims to improve space services, products, arts and culture, and safety. Plans include adding AI-powered smart restrooms, new elevators connecting levels B2 to 2, and dedicated spaces for art galleries and youth entrepreneurship centers. To enhance lifestyle services, food and beverage stalls will be limited to under 70% of the total space.

TRA Chairman Cheng Kuang-yuan stated that at least 70% of operations will continue uninterrupted during the construction period. Regarding concerns about homeless individuals at the station, officials noted that maintaining order is being handled through coordination with the Taipei City Government and railway police.
