Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an faces criticism over typhoon response

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an has faced scrutiny regarding his handling of Typhoon Prapiroon. Following comments by DPP Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Po-yang, who suggested that typhoon holidays should be decoupled from stock market operations, Chiang clarified that the authority for such decisions rests with the Executive Yuan. Chiang emphasized that his primary responsibility as mayor is ensuring citizen safety based on scientific data and meteorological forecasts.

Additionally, Chiang has faced local criticism regarding his disaster prevention inspections. Reports indicate that during a recent visit to Yongjian Elementary School to inspect drainage systems, local community leaders were not notified in advance. This led to confrontations with local officials who expressed frustration over unresolved drainage and maintenance issues in the area.
