Taitung conducts large-scale earthquake disaster response drill

Taitung County is conducting a large-scale, three-day earthquake disaster response drill as part of National Disaster Prevention Day. The exercise involves approximately 1,300 participants, including central and local government personnel, the military, civilian organizations, and international rescue teams.

The drill features multi-dimensional medical and rescue operations, including land, sea, and air coordination. A National Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) has established an emergency station to simulate treating victims in mountainous areas via helicopter transport. The simulation also includes transferring critical patients from land to medical vessels at sea to address potential medical shortages in urban areas.

Additional components of the exercise include large-scale evacuation and shelter management, involving cooperation between government agencies and organizations like the Red Cross and Tzu Chi Foundation. Specialized search and rescue teams from 14 cities and counties, along with 15 international teams from seven countries, are practicing technical rescues in collapsed building simulations.
