Taiwan disaster response and preparedness efforts

Overview

Taiwan is enhancing its disaster response capabilities through large-scale drills and technological advancements. In Taitung County, a three-day earthquake response drill was conducted involving approximately 1,300 participants, including government personnel, the military, and international rescue teams. The exercise simulated a 7.3 magnitude earthquake and focused on multi-dimensional medical and rescue operations, such as helicopter transport in mountainous areas and patient transfers to medical vessels at sea.

These efforts include international cooperation, with medical teams from Poland, Japan, and the United States participating in coordination exercises to improve resilience for mass casualty events. Additionally, technological innovation is being integrated into emergency services, highlighted by the development of the ‘Smart Rescue-Precision Dispatch-Disaster Prevention AI Smart Dispatch Platform’ by the Kinmen County Fire Bureau to manage volunteer logistics during major disasters.
