Taiwan advances robotics industry with new standards and Tainan innovation center

Taiwan is advancing its robotics industry through new technical standards and the establishment of a dedicated innovation center. The Autonomous Mobile Robot Alliance (AMRA), led by the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), has released the ‘AMRA-201: 2026 General Requirements and Test Methods for Mobile Robots’. This new standard includes performance testing for wheeled, tracked, and legged robots to facilitate commercialization and procurement. Additionally, AMRA and the Taiwan Intelligent Automation and Robotics Association (TAIROA) released guidelines for creating robot-friendly environments.

In Tainan, the Tainan Robotics Industry Development Innovation Center has officially launched in the Liuying Science and Technology Industrial Park. The center aims to assist traditional industries in adopting AI and automation while supporting robotics startups and system integrators in testing and mass production. Local officials noted that the region's existing semiconductor and component manufacturing strengths provide a strong foundation for building a smart robotics cluster.

Parallel to these technical developments, ITRI has partnered with National Taiwan University to launch a management training program for technical experts. The program is designed to help researchers transition into leadership roles by focusing on business strategy, market orientation, and organizational management.
