Taiwan authorities launch anti-bribery campaigns ahead of 2026 elections

Authorities in Taiwan are intensifying efforts to prevent election bribery and fraud ahead of the November 28, 2026, local elections.

Chung Ho-hsien, Chief Prosecutor of the Tainan District Prosecutors Office, has issued a public call to maintain electoral fairness. He warned against various illegal activities, including traditional vote-buying, fraudulent changes of household registration to gain voting rights, and offering low-cost or free overseas travel to influence voters. Additionally, he highlighted the illegality of election gambling conducted via internet platforms or communication software. Under current Ministry of Justice guidelines, reporting foreign interference in elections can earn rewards of up to NT$20 million, with informant identities strictly protected.

In Taoyuan, the City Social Affairs Bureau conducted training sessions for staff to strengthen awareness of anti-bribery, anti-fraud, and information security measures. Led by officials from the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau, the sessions focused on legal regulations, common fraud tactics, and the importance of maintaining official secrecy and cybersecurity to ensure a clean and safe administrative environment.
