Taiwan F-16 fighter jet delivery delayed in Hawaii

The delivery of the first two F-16 Block 70 fighter jets purchased by Taiwan from the United States has faced unexpected delays. The aircraft, identified by serial numbers 6727 and 6728, were expected to arrive at Taiwan’s Chihhang Air Base in late August after departing the continental United States.

Instead of proceeding to Guam for refueling and servicing, the jets have remained at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii for over two weeks. Aviation enthusiasts reported seeing the aircraft taxi toward the runway on September 7, but they reportedly returned to the apron due to weather conditions.

Neither the Taiwanese Air Force nor United States officials have provided a specific reason for the delay, leading to speculation regarding potential technical issues or supply chain disruptions. The broader procurement program involves 66 F-16 C/D aircraft, a project that has already faced scheduling adjustments due to production line relocations and supply chain complexities.
