Taiwan launches Health Coin and fitness incentive programs

Taiwan's Ministry of Health and Welfare is launching a 'Health Coin' initiative, with accumulation beginning October 1 and redemption starting December 1. Minister Shi Chung-liang stated that the points follow a 'lifetime accumulation' concept, allowing citizens aged 18 and older to earn rewards through various positive health behaviors.

Initial earning opportunities include preventive healthcare measures such as adult health check-ups, hepatitis B and C screenings, and various cancer screenings (breast, oral, lung, colorectal, and cervical). Vaccinations for influenza, COVID-19, and pneumococcus also qualify. Future expansions may include blood donation, participating in marathons or road races, and elderly health assessments.

In a related effort to promote physical activity, the Ministry of Sports has introduced the 'Sweat with Rewards' campaign. Participants can earn weekly 'Health Gift Vouchers' worth 50 TWD by completing specific tasks, such as exercising for 30 minutes, walking 8,000 steps a day, or running 5 kilometers. The program aims to incentivize regular movement through redeemable goods at convenience stores and supermarkets.
