Taiwan legal cases highlight sexual misconduct involving minors

Two separate incidents of sexual misconduct involving minors have drawn legal and social attention in Taiwan.

In Taichung, a father was sentenced to 4 years and 5 months in prison for the sexual abuse of his young son and daughter. Between 2022 and 2024, the man touched his daughter's genitals and forced her to touch his, while also engaging in sexual acts with his son. The judge applied a reduced sentence, citing the defendant's lack of prior criminal record and the principle that a heavy sentence might hinder his future reintegration into society.

In a separate incident on a metro system, a female passenger reported being harassed by an elementary school student who followed her, grabbed her clothes, and attempted to embrace her. Legal experts noted that while the behavior may not meet the legal threshold for stalking due to a lack of repetition, the physical contact likely constitutes sexual harassment. Depending on the child's age, the case would be handled through juvenile protection procedures or school counseling systems.
