Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs coordinates salad oil production increase

Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs is coordinating with oil producers to increase salad oil production following supply chain disruptions caused by the Chung Lian Oil incident. The move comes as demand is expected to peak due to the Hungry Ghost Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and the start of the new school semester.

The Ministry has coordinated with three major producers—TTET, Everlight, and Taisugar—to maximize capacity and manage supply distribution. To support the food industry, the Ministry has established a dedicated matchmaking window to help affected businesses find alternative suppliers. Currently, Taisugar is providing 534 barrels of salad oil daily to 43 school meal providers, and TTET is supplying various catering, canning, and pastry businesses.

While the Ministry expects overall supply to meet market demand, some short-term limitations or delivery delays may occur as downstream businesses switch suppliers. Consumers have also begun using alternatives such as rapeseed, sunflower, and palm oils. The Ministry will continue to monitor market dynamics to ensure supply chain stability.
