The situation escalated following a food safety scandal involving CSBC Oils. Prosecutors indicted 15 individuals and four companies after discovering that CSBC had relaxed soybean input standards and failed to report abnormal levels of benzo(a)pyrene in salad oil, resulting in the distribution of approximately 8,478 metric tons of substandard oil. In response, the government has prioritized oil supplies for institutional meals through the Taiwan Sugar Corporation, while Minister Kung Ming-hsin indicated that central government intervention would occur if local authorities could not manage the supply issues.
