Taiwan NGOs bring seniors and disabled to accessible outdoor trips

The Hongdao Elder Welfare Foundation organized a half‑day trip on July 24 to Qijin for 12 socially disadvantaged seniors in Kaohsiung. Volunteers from the Kaohsiung Scouts escorted the group, providing wheelchair‑friendly transport, accessible facilities and assistance throughout the journey, allowing the elders to experience a rare outing.

In Hualien, the Water Wheelchair Dream Park partnered with local charities and the Idean Resort to host an "Outdoors For All" wheelchair‑accessible canoeing event at Fengzhigu Natural Ecological Park. Around 40 participants with disabilities paddled two‑person canoes under the supervision of coaches, with specialized lifting equipment and barrier‑free shuttles making the water activity safe and inclusive. Both initiatives aimed to lower physical and logistical barriers so seniors and people with disabilities can enjoy outdoor recreation.
